Family Plan Providers

Family cell phone plans are available for families who need 2 or more phones and want to share the minutes and plan features amongst all the phones. Most carriers allow you to have 2 to 5 cell phones on one account. One well known national cell phone service provider for example, charges around $70 per month for the most basic 2-phone plan. Then each additional phone (upto 5) will set you back another 10 bucks.

This pricing plan is changing, however. For example Verizon is replacing most of their per minute plans with a new Share everything plan where each phone has a base cost, depending on whether the phone is a smartphone or not. All smartphones then require a data plan, which can be shared between all the phones. This works out best for families that use a lot of calling, texting, and data.

Consumers Could Benefit from an AT&T and T-Mobile Merger

If you haven't heard, AT&T is proposing a merger/buyout of fellow provider T-Mobile. The deal faces some skepticism from the FCC, competitors, and consumers, but I think it looks like the deal will get done eventually.

At first glance, it seems like such a merger might hurt customers, especially existing T-Mobile customers who are happy with their service. Questions arise such as what Brands and plans will continue to exist. Will T-Mobile be no more or will they be an AT&T owned brand? What about their cheap cell phone plans?

Some are trying to find the bright side in this merger and how it might be good for cellular providers and their customers. I came across an article on Huffington Post that argues this point. What is the point? The author believes that those arguing about the price are missing the point. The deal is about content, and subscribers want and the market supports the purchase of that content.

This is a good point for a lot of consumers, though I'd say there are still a lot of cellular phone users who ARE very interested in the monthly cost of their phone service and mostly using calling and text features.

Leave a Voice Mail on a Cell Phone without Calling

I was just reading about a new service that is in Beta for cell phone users. It is called Slydial and lets you leave a message on a cellular user's voicemail without calling their cell phone.

I read this in an AP story ( press release in action?) that I got in a news alert.

This got me thinking. I was already doing this for free YEARS ago, right from my own voicemail. I do not know if this is still the case or if it was only for other Verizon Wireless customers, but I recall checking my own voicemail and being given the option to leave a voice mail message for someone else. When prompted, I entered the phone number and their voice greeting would play.

I think I will test this later and report back. If this service is already standard, what is the point of using this company.
