Family cell phone plans are available for families who need 2 or more phones and want to share the minutes and plan features amongst all the phones. Most carriers allow you to have 2 to 5 cell phones on one account. One well known national cell phone service provider for example, charges around $70 per month for the most basic 2-phone plan. Then each additional phone (upto 5) will set you back another 10 bucks.
This pricing plan is changing, however. For example Verizon is replacing most of their per minute plans with a new Share everything plan where each phone has a base cost, depending on whether the phone is a smartphone or not. All smartphones then require a data plan, which can be shared between all the phones. This works out best for families that use a lot of calling, texting, and data.
